Highpass filter - perfect tool for sharpening with less artifacts. Works in the same way as in Photoshop, with a few enhancements in one node.

Gizmo generates B/W image, basically creates difference map between original image and unsharp version of the same image. Use overlay or softlight blending mode to blend it over original image. Check out attached sample script to compare the difference.
