Ok so the usual degrain regrain workflow would be to degrain the plate do your work then add a grain node to your shot at the end.
the problem you have with this is that the grain you are generating will be different from the grain that was in the original plate.
so if a supervisor was to do a difference between your completed shot and the original plate they would see that the grain over the plate wasn't the same.
I built this tool out of necessity I had a shot where a CG element was illuminating a section of the plate. I had to grade the section a lot as I was grading the plate the grain in this section was becoming crunchy.
So I degrained the section of the plate graded it then regrained it just using the standard grain node but my supervisor rightly said the grain isn't the grain from the plate.
so here's the tool I created to solve it.
the tool Will degrain the footage so you can work on it then reapplies the plates original grain back on the completed shot
there are two groups in this tool set first one degarins the footage then do what ever work you need to do.
Then add the second group to the end of your completed shot.
please note the grain is applied through a channel so whatever work you do after the degrain group make sure the merges carry the grain channel through to the end group
