Simple gizmo to distort CG to match a lens distortion value calculated by syntheyes.

Distortion Value - lens distortion value from syntheyes

Accuracy - subdivisions of the distorted card (1.5 will be fine for most uses, bigger numbers will get slow)

Un/Distort? - Invert the function

NB. Needs your project frame format to be set

Created on Win64, but should work for all versions

Any feedback welcome.

thanks Matt, helps me a lot with my cg comps--that required lens distort

Howdy;
First off thank you so much for tackling this idea. Its much needed for Syntheyes users. Anyways, I brought in some footage into Syntheyes, and exported it undistorted. Then I loaded the distorted and undistorted footage into nuke. I applied this gizmo to the distorted image sequence, and entered the Lens Distortion value found in SynthEyes, to check if it undistorts to match the undistorted exported from syntheyes footage. And while this gizmo did undistort the distorted footage in a way, it does not match the undistortad footage from syntheyes. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong.

Hi Lenny,

Thanks for comments - its always good to get some feedback.

Did you increase the accuracy value? this value increases the subdivisions used in the un/distortion of the card so increasing this will get closer to the distortion as calculated in Syntheyes.

Also... make sure your project/script is set correctly. The gizmo uses your scene settings to apply the distortion so make sure thats done right, otherwise you will get weird anamorphic undistortion going on.

The distortion algorithms ion Syntheyes and used in Nuke are the same though so the numbers should match.

Let me know if you dont get any closer.

Thanks

Matt
